You are loved!

Are You Thirsty?

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14 (NASB)

Always concerned about spiritual health of His children, Jesus offers one who is not yet God’s child a key principle in life with Him. This principle goes a long way in quenching the activity of lust of our mind and flesh. In the story about the woman at the well, Jesus refers to a natural well that serves natural thirsts. The woman reports some limitations for Jesus, “…You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep...” (John 4:11) Jesus offers her not only a receptacle to get the water (Himself) but also the way that it produces a quenching drink to all of life’s thirsts (Holy Spirit).

Jesus makes a promise that should be overwhelming in our hearing, “…Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again…” (John 4:13). This thirst is related to the desires that burn in our flesh that are contrary to God’s provisions and can never be quenched. Then He says, “…but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14). You see that? Jesus said “never” thirst.

Wow! Nothing else in life can make that claim but its real. He did not say you wouldn’t be “thirsty”, but He guaranteed that your thirstiness will be totally satisfied! The peace that passes understanding (Phil. 4:6-7) will invade your desires and put to rest the anxiousness that may exists. Having the living water (active word) as an internal well in our spirit will douse every desire and need.

As we live in an intense time in our world, true believers should not forget the promise made by Jesus to satisfy the thirsts of life that comes as true life springs up in our spirit and sustains us in His peace.

Are you thirsty?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the living water you deposited in me as your child. Give me the boldness to draw upon Your living water for my life.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
